The heart of Kuala Lumpur lies in the four junction road of Bukit Bintang, pulsating with life and never ending traffic. And what better way to see the city come to life than staying in the middle of it all? WOLO Kuala Lumpur’s strategic location promises you a convenient staycation as it’s located only a stone’s throw away from Pavilion KL, Sungei Wang Plaza and hundreds of restaurants, bars and cafes. What’s your first impression of the hotel?
Located right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, amidst the shopping, food and nightlife, the hotel’s design reflected the energy in the surrounding area. It’s an art-centered space that’s clean, compact and has everything you need for a short stay in the city. Thanks to the high ceilings, the space feels very open and spacious, and I loved looking out the windows to watch the world go by.
What’s the highlight of the hotel?
As someone who appreciates art and design, I’m delighted to see that the hotel is filled with bespoke and handcrafted furniture and WOLO-exclusive artwork. Every floor is filled with the work of different artists. You’ll notice this from the moment you walk in, starting from the timber installation (titled Downside Up, designed by Jon Reading) above the main reception desk that represents the streets of Bukit Bintang. The little details are not forgotten too, as the main door handle is made out of pewter, bearing Royal Selangor’s classic hammered finish, a nod to the Malaysian mining heritage.
What can we expect in the room?
The compact rooms feel luxurious thanks to the gold finishing and the use of beautifully-designed furniture. The presence of mirrors and reflective surfaces, coupled with the large window overlooking the streets below, make the room feel spacious. The room is complete with all the amenities you would need for a staycation — hairdryer, toiletries, plush towels and cozy bathrobes, as well as botanical scented soaps from Appelles Apothecary & Lab. So, don’t worry if you forgot to bring yours!
Now, onto the most important detail — the bed. I’m happy to report that the bed is comfortable, with plenty of pillows and blankets for a lavish good night’s sleep. The blackout curtains that block out the morning sun is perfect for those lazy mornings when you want to sleep just a little bit longer. It’s a staycation, after all!
What about the food and drinks?
Mr. Chew’s Chino Latino Bar is run by the same amazing team behind Troika Sky Dining, so you know it’s gonna be a combination of delicious Asian food with an interesting surprise. The menu is a mix of Malaysian, Chinese, Thai, and Japanese cuisine with a Latino twist. Their desserts take a lavish twist on Malaysian favorites such as pisang goreng (banana fritters) and ais kacang (flavored shaved ice).
If you need your coffee fix, head over to the Starbucks Reserve on the ground floor next to the reception. This special branch of the Starbucks franchise offers rare coffee beans from around the world, where you can try out different brewing methods that bring out the best of your morning cuppa.
As for breakfast, it’s served at the hotel’s restaurant on the third floor, with windows that overlook the streets below. There is a wide variety of food to choose from, with a satisfying choice of pastries, eggs, sausages, and hashbrowns, as well as local favorites like char kuey teow, nasi goreng and nasi lemak. If you want something light and healthy, they’ ve also got fresh fruits, cereals, yogurt, juice and hot drinks to choose from.
Anything to say about the service?
The service was lovely, I had no complaints. A special note, the staff at Mr. Chew’s Chino Latino Bar were extremely well trained and accommodating. They managed to squeeze a table for two even though we hadn’t made prior reservations and were extremely well versed in all the menu items. Overall, I had a great experience!
Is it worth it, and if so, why?
For the convenience and comfort, 100%. You get the feeling of a luxury stay without the luxury price tag. The location couldn’t be any better, with the hotel situated near all the stunning KL landmarks. It’s perfect for a weekend stay to feel like a tourist in your own city.
