Smurf Inn: A whimsical fairytale stay in Cameron Highlands

For a nice and easy weekend getaway from the city, the cool climate and lush farmland of Cameron Highlands offer the perfect escape. If you’re looking for an affordable, family-friendly stay, Smurf Inn is just what you need.

Smurf Inn – Outdoor Seating Area

Located on a hill across from Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club, guests at Smurf Inn get a lovely view of the rolling green landscape of the golf course. The rooms range from cozy single and deluxe rooms to spacious suites that can accommodate from 4 to 8 people.

Smurf Inn – Premium Suite

Its rooms are equipped with an en suite bathroom, flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, a mini fridge and a fan (since you won’t need air conditioning). Its Deluxe Room also has a nifty vanity table with a mirror that you can lift up when you need it and fold down when you don’t to make more space.

There are plenty of places for you to sit and enjoy the view (or take cute selfies 📸), including the outdoor seating area that has a lovely merry-go-round for the kids to ride, while the towering, brightly-colored mushrooms make you feel like you’ve actually ended up in the Smurfs’ village!

Smurf Inn – Play Area

The English Coffee House, situated on the second floor, is where you take your complimentary breakfast. You can choose from a light meal of cereal and toast or something heavier, like nasi lemak or fried noodles. Though there’s not much variety to the menu, we found the breakfast tasty and filling!

The cafe’s decor gets its inspiration from charming tea houses typically found in England, complete with warm lighting from vintage lamps and chandeliers. If you look closely, you’ll also come across some friendly Smurf residents on the mantel above the fireplace.

Top Things to Do in Cameron Highlands

Set just outside Brinchang town, Smurf Inn is conveniently located near many well-loved attractions in Cameron Highlands. Here are our picks of the things you’ve got to see and do during your visit.

Nasi Lemak Sambal Strawberry

Get your fill of all things strawberry

Famous for its strawberries, Cameron Highlands is littered with self-pick strawberry farms, where you can also find all kinds of strawberry products – from cordials and jams to sambal and meat floss. Just next to Smurf Inn is one such farm, Kasimanis Strawberry Farm, where you can eat chocolate-covered fresh strawberries on skewers and walk among the strawberry bushes.

One can’t-miss stop is Abang Strawberry’s 200 Seeds Cafe in Kampung Taman Sedia, which is known for its signature dish, Nasi Lemak Sambal Strawberry (RM9.90). Served with a large piece of crispy fried chicken and a side of strawberry sambal, it’s a unique dish you can only find in Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Adventurous ATV & Safari

Go on a thrilling tea plantation safari with Cameron Adventurous

No trip to Cameron Highlands is complete without visiting one of its many vast tea plantations. However, rather than taking in the view from afar at a tea house or clambering through the tea bushes, hop on a 4x4 jeep or an ATV vehicle with Cameron Adventurous.

Operating at the Cameron Valley tea plantation in Kuala Terla, you get to explore the deeper reaches of the plantation, away from the crowds. It costs RM10 per person for a ride on the 4x4, while the ATV safari is RM50 per person.

Cameron Lavender Garden

Try the lavender ice cream at Cameron Lavender Garden

During the summer months, visitors flock to Hokkaido, Japan to view the blooming lavender fields, but if you can’t make the trip, no worries – just drop by Cameron Lavender Garden. Here, you’ll find carpets of lavender in various shades and species, from Hokkaido lavender to Mona lavender and Taiwan lavender. Their scent fills the enclosed garden, which protects the lavender from the fickle weather.

One thing you definitely have to check off the list is tasting the lavender soft-serve ice cream. Lilac in color and lightly floral in smell, the sweet, milky and light lavender taste of the ice cream is certainly interesting. Plus, who can turn down the Instagram-worthy photo opportunity of holding up the ice cream with the lavender flowers in the background?

Time Tunnel Museum

Take a trip back in time at Time Tunnel Museum

If you’re born in the 1980s and earlier, a lot of the artifacts found in Time Tunnel Museum will hit you with a strong sense of nostalgia. The museum tells the history of Malaysia and Cameron Highlands, from the time of British rule and Japanese occupation to independence and the formation of Malaysia.

Scattered throughout the museum are walk-through displays that invite visitors to stop, admire and take photos, such as a classic kopitiam and an old-school salon. You’ll come across plenty of antiques and relics collected by the museum’s owners, as well as a section discussing the mysterious disappearance of Jim Thompson, an American Thai silk magnate who vanished without a trace in Cameron Highlands in 1967.

Brinchang Weekend Night Market

Snack and shop your way around Brinchang Weekend Night Market

If you’re a fan of night markets, then you’ve got to check out the one and only night market in Cameron Highlands. The stalls are conveniently arranged by what they sell, with a row of stalls selling hot food, another selling fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers, and another offering toys, clothes and accessories.

Our favorite part is obviously the food stalls, where you need a lot of willpower to stop yourself from buying everything you set eyes on. Try the sweet potato balls, a fried snack that’s crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and is best eaten piping hot, as well as fresh-off-the-grill corn ears and deep-fried veggies.

Brinchang Weekend Night Market
Open Friday to Sunday
Opening Hours: 4.00pm – 11.00pm
