Popular island destination Pulau Langkawi is one of the most beautiful islands in Southeast Asia for good reason — think vast expanses of untouched rainforests, and long white sandy beaches overlooking the emerald waters of the Andaman Sea.A quiet backwater until the 1980s, Langkawi has since transformed into a world-renowned tourist hub and conferred a World Geopark status by UNESCO in 2007. While the island now boasts various family-friendly attractions, duty-free shopping and world-class resorts, one thing that has not lost is its idyllic charm. Much of the island is still covered in lush rainforests untouched by development, and home to an abundant wildlife such as the White-bellied Sea Eagle and the Flying Lemur. Visitors to Langkawi island, whether seasoned or otherwise, will always discover something new with each trip.
If you think you are already familiar with the island but need an updated version of your itinerary, here’s a list of some of the most memorable things to do in Langkawi which we personally handpicked that will help you see the island anew. If you are new to the island, this is a guide you will most certainly find to be indispensable.

First on our list: Cute penguins! At the Underwater World Langkawi, where you’ll find over 4,000 species of marine life, we think the main highlight is the Penguinarium! So make sure you catch a glimpse of these adorable creatures, especially during the daily feeding sessions. Next, immerse in a surreal, once-in-a-lifetime experience of being underwater as you walk along a 15-meter long tunnel while observing the stingrays and sharks glide through the waters gracefully above you.

If you are fond of the wild and furry, then the Langkawi Wildlife Park is a must-visit during your trip to Langkawi. Ranked highly among locals as a popular destination, this zoo’s uniqueness is its emphasis on outreach programs to youths and school-going children about the animal kingdom. Get up close and personal with the yellow Burmese pythons, take selfies with pink flamingos, get cuddly with the racoons and even experience having the eagle, Langkawi’s mascot, perched on your forearm! Don't miss the chance to meet the rare Fennec foxes, the newest addition to the zoo. There are also other unique animals for you to explore in the four sections of the zoo. Get tickets here!

Here’s one way to have a jaw-dropping experience: be among the first to visit Malaysia’s monster crocodile! Soon to be registered in the Malaysia Book of Records as the country’s longest crocodile in captivity, the 4.68 metres-long reptile, known as the “Buaya Tembaga” in Malay, is much larger than the average Crocodylus Porosus species or the saltwater crocodile. This latest addition to the Crocodile Adventureland is not the only reason why you gotta head over there and make it snappy. If one crocodile’s not enough for you, fret not for Crocodile Adventureland has over 4,000 crocodiles from various species. Learn about these reptiles from experienced crocodile handlers as you watch the Crocodylus Interpretation & Education show. You can even watch the giant crocodiles devour their meal or help to feed them (not for the faint-hearted!)! For those hungry for more, check out our croc info!

Tired of the same-old, same-old things to do in Langkawi? Then let’s kick up the adrenaline by a notch! The Langkawi Adventure & Xtreme Park is probably your cup of tea if you enjoy cardiac-pumping activities, like the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) jungle rides, flying fox, go-kart, paintball, archery, and many more! They even have horse-riding and 5D Motion Cinema. The extreme park’s latest addition is the Langkawi SkyBike, in which you ride a bike on a tightrope suspended 50 feet in the air. Don’t say we didn’t tell you, the brakes on the bikes are removed because the best way to balance them is to keep on pedalling! Need we say more? Find out how you can have a memorable ride here!

After getting all pumped up from the exhilarating thrill rides, all we want to do to end the day is to lean back on a rattan chair, with a virgin pina colada in hand while watching the evening skies turn purple and pink. We think the Hidden Restaurant and Bar, Langkawi’s newest addition to its trendy nightlife, got you covered on that one. A picture-perfect bar and restaurant that’s just waiting for you to come over and chill, this restaurant-cum-beach bar boasts amazing views of the Andaman Sea, and serves both local and western favorites. With something for everyone, Langkawi easily lives up to its reputation as being one of the best places to visit in Malaysia. No wonder we love coming back, again and again!
