Many people will travel at some point of their lives. It can be a short trip to a neighboring country during the weekend, a family vacation, or even a long-term travel where one chooses to fly with just a one-way ticket. Whatever your reasons are, there’s always something that’s triggering you to pack your bags and visit a new place. Here are 8 reasons why people travel.
1. Meet their Ah Ma, Pak Ngah, twin brother and other relatives
You’ll likely have relatives who live or have just moved to another country, whether it’s thousands of miles away or in a country just next door. In Malaysia, many families travel to Singapore to visit their families who are either living, studying, or working there.
Same goes to everybody else in the world who would do the same for their loved ones. Besides visiting their relatives, the opportunity also encourages them to explore the culture and environment of which their loved ones are living in.
2. Reunion with BFFs (Best Friends Forever)
I’d be happy if my friends suddenly called me up and invited me to their weddings, birthdays, housewarming, or baby showers! Yes, these are some of the reasons why people travel across states or countries — to show up at important events, or be involved in whatever that matters to them.
Also, if you haven’t seen your best friends for a long time, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to catch up with each other, like how you used to? I really miss all the friends I met during my travels. Given a chance, I’d get a flight ticket to somewhere, just to see them once again.
3. Adventure into the unknown (or just less known)
What’s life without adventures? In my world, that’s boring. But here’s one thing you need to know: You don’t necessarily need to explore jungles just to have a taste of adventure. Trying exotic food and exploring new places on your own are just as adventurous!
And because these experiences are thrilling and usually unexpected, they make life even more fun and memorable. If you also love taking the road not taken, then you’ll definitely be motivated to travel. That’s the best way to find real adventures!
4. Tick items off a bucket list
Neither am I a fan of the bucket list, nor am I against it. It’s good to have goals, and having a bucket list is just one way to do it. With a list of all the places you want to visit at least once in your lifetime, you’ll know what you want to see and where you should go in order to see it.
5. Our favorite word: Vacation!
People take vacations now and then because they seek the rest they desperately need. After dealing with the stress of daily life, wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to get away from it for a little while and go to a nice place where we can rejuvenate and unwind?
The beach seems like the perfect place to do it. And after all that hard work, the feeling of treating yourself using your hard earned money is rewarding! You’ve worked hard, so why not treat yourself to a nice staycation? Check out our latest hotel deals!
6. Meet someone new or a special someone
Meeting new people is a wonderful experience. You’ll never know who you’ll meet in your travels. It could be someone you’ll be traveling with, someone who will be listening to all your stories, or even your potential soulmate! Who knows?
I’ve met many interesting people on the road; both locals and travelers from around the globe. It’s good to know that we still keep in touch. In fact, we are constantly making plans to meet again! You see, that proves that you don’t need to spend the rest of your high school years to have good, long-term friends.
7. Step way out of your comfort zone
Traveling is challenging, especially when it’s a long-term one. With the challenges and mistakes you’d likely make on the road, traveling is one of the ways to get the world’s most valuable lessons — which are things you never really learned in school.
Travel also forces you to get out of your comfort zone. It makes you want to learn new things such as foreign languages, food, people, and cultures. You’ll also learn to be a better problem solver. I totally agree that the world is a book and a school of life.
8. Build and strengthen relationships
You don’t know who you are until you explore yourself and the world around you. Travel gives you the opportunity to discover the kind of person you truly are; your weaknesses, and your strengths. People realize that there are times when they need to be alone or go somewhere on their own. There are also times when they sense the need to be with the person they care or love, and travel together.
Traveling together is one of the best ways to know if you and your partner will make a good fit. Those who have traveled with their partners will be able to understand this. You will be able to see their true selves while on the road. Traveling is also a great way to bond with loved ones.
