Managed by the same team at Melaka’s institution The Daily Fix, Sharing Plates welcomes diners with an Instagrammable facade of charming pastel green window frames, Peranakan-style ceramic tiles, marble tables and lush greeneries. The Insta-worthy decor is also reflected in their dishes, which are thoughtfully prepared so you’ll be salivating once the food arrives at the table. The menu is slightly similar to The Daily Fix, but as Malaysians say, same same but different. Some of the must-tries include french toast with teh tarik sauce, guacamole on toast, and berry blast smoothies.

Sin See Tai

Another The Daily Fix’s sister cafe, Sin See Tai (which means a “new generation” or “new era” in Hokkien) offers a smaller menu with healthier options. The hole-in-the-wall cafe can only fit 15 diners at a time, so if you want to try the famous waffle and popsicle dish, then be prepared to wait. The dish is an interesting pairing with an icy fruity popsicle of roselle, mango and passion fruit on top of a crispy and sweet waffle. Pair it with a glass of passion fruit iced tea, as the two are a match made in heaven!

The location is hidden away in a back alley and you’ll need to walk through a souvenir store, but it’s far from boring and drab. If you’re looking for something heavy, the cafe serves delicious handmade grub such as classic breakfast platters, pizza and panini. The cafe is also famous for its enticing coffee and desserts such as passion fruit surprise macaron, salted caramel tart and praline mille-feuille. So, grab a seat and enjoy a cuppa!

Their signature dish — salted egg yolk French toast is a must-try if you’re a fan of anything salted egg yolk. The toast, covered with breadcrumbs is deep-fried and upon slicing, a molten lava of salted egg yolk sauce will drip on to the plate, creating a pool of deliciousness waiting to be devoured. The food presentation here is also top-notch, perfect for your Instagram feed!

Tucked in a hidden corner of Jonker Street, this quiet and quaint cafe will satisfy those who are looking for some respite from the crowd. The exposed red brick walls and wooden furniture give off a rustic feeling, exuding a calm ambiance. Enjoy a tall glass of iced soya cincau with gula Melaka as well as toast with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon while being serenaded by jazz music. If you still have space in your tummy, try the Melaka Elvis pancake, which is loaded with banana and homemade kaya (coconut jam), topped with peanut butter and chocolate sauce.

Pro tip: Choose a table in the outdoor courtyard and you can admire the beautiful hand-painted wall murals.
