6 things we’ve learned during this social distancing period

Not gonna lie, it’s been a hot minute. We’ve barely been out for the past month, there’s been so much talk online, and so much to reflect on. On what seemed to be our “normal” days before the social distancing period had begun, we’d complain that we don’t have spare time for anything, and when we have it, we want to spend it doing nothing. Well, now we’ve kind of spent the entire month dwelling in “nothing”, and of course, it still doesn’t feel quite right, or satisfying, because it’s human nature to always have something to complain about. But hey, what a time to be alive, right?

On the bright side, every second forward is one step closer for us to be able to go back to our normal routines again. But in the meantime, here’s a brief summary of the lessons we’ve learned thus far.

You don’t have to beat yourself up for not being productive all the time

First things first, this point is very important for you to drum into your head. If you’re privileged enough to be able to work from home, or if you’re a freelancer, or if you’re just like any one of us —you really don’t have to learn a new language or develop the next big thing by the end of this social distancing period. Of course you can if you want to, but the point is that it’s okay if you’re not always being productive at home. Don’t let the “hustle culture” get to you when it doesn’t need to. Take this time to lay back, rest, and catch up on all the time that you didn’t have before.

If everyone does their part in following the rules, this wouldn’t be longer than it should be

We’ve seen videos of people who are still out there pulling off sneaky business. But this needs no explanation, if you want this to be over just as much as the rest of us do, then just follow the rules and stay at home so you don’t prolong it.

Malaysian healthcare is thriving

In case you didn’t already know, the Malaysian healthcare system is something Malaysians should be proud of. We have everything from well-trained medical staff to great hospital facilities. To top it off, Malaysia scored 95 out of 100 and took the first spot as the ‘Best Healthcare’ under the ‘World’ category of the 2019 International Living Global Retirement Index. The improvement in the Malaysian healthcare system over the last ten years has been significant — and we have our medical experts to thank!

Cooking at home saves you much more money

We’re sure you’ve heard of this. You are much more skilled on the stoves than you think — with some help from the Internet, of course. Who says you’re not capable of making your own kick-ass cafe-worthy brunch or restaurant-worthy dinner? Think of all the money you’re saving!

You don’t need overpriced coffee as much as you think

Guilty as charged! Your sanity may be slipping, but it’s keeping your wallet in check. Plus, making your own coffee isn’t so bad — whip out your metal straw and mason jar and it’ll be just as fab.

You don’t have to pressure yourself into cutting your own bangs

There, we said it. We hope your boredom doesn’t lead to anything too impulsive! For example that self piercing you want to attempt. Before doing anything major, always talk to someone about it first.
