Is staying home all day long driving you crazy? Have you run out of activities to do? Binge-watched all the shows on Netflix? If you answered yes to all these questions, then you need some new activities to keep you (and the kids!) occupied! Here, we’ve compiled some fun activities that can keep you and the little ones entertained during this isolation period. Read on!
Being cooped up for a long period of time can induce excessive cravings. If you can’t go out to your favorite cafe, why not try your hand at cooking your favorite dishes or cakes? Challenge yourself to make something new every day, your tummy and family will thank you! We loved basically’s 10-week challenge where you can try out 10 different baking recipes that are perfect for any novice or professional baker. Of course, you don’t need to take 10 weeks to complete the challenge, just go at your own pace. It’s also a fun activity to do with the kiddos. At the end of this isolation period, you’ll have at least one signature dish to flaunt off at the next party!
All those junk food consumption and no place to burn them off? Fret not, you can join a virtual workout class! There are plenty of videos that you can find on YouTube, but if you want streamlined workout classes, some Instagram influencers and gyms are offering live-streamed classes. Follow these active Instagram accounts to keep your mental and physical health in check:
@sugarrandspice for home workouts
@babel.dance for dance classes
@epique.fitness for pilates, HIIT and yoga classes
With all this free time you now have, what better way to keep yourself busy other than learning one or two skills? It’s never too late to join an online course and the best thing is, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home! (Psst… you can even wear sweats 😉). There’s a myriad of platforms that you can try such as Masterclass, Skillshare and you can even take free online courses from Ivy League universities!
Here’s one for the kiddos. While a lockdown usually involves schools to be closed, this shouldn’t deprive your kids of learning. For parents who are anxious about their kids’ education and worry that this isolation period would set them back, Scholastic is here to your rescue. The educational company has launched a “Learn at Home” website that has daily courses for students of any age. From learning about why zebras have stripes to math lessons based on K-Pop stars, the Scholastic learning plans will keep your kiddos occupied. The courses provide approximately three hours of learning per day, including writing and research projects, virtual field trips, and geography challenges. It’s also free and no sign up is required!
Keep those creative juices flowing with one of many Instagram challenges. Doodle artist @annjfr has started the #MovementRestrictionsDoodleChallenge, where you can create a doodle based on each day’s theme throughout the isolation period. Okay, okay, we know not everyone’s good at drawing. Don’t worry, we’re not leaving you out. Join Provence-based photographer to create one original piece of photographic art each day and share your art with the world. You don’t even need a fancy camera to join, your camera phone will do!
Can’t travel? No problem! You can still visit the most beautiful places on Earth using Google Earth. Use it to create customized maps and stories about places around the world. Mark spots you care about and add text, photos, and videos to complete your stories. You can also share your maps and stories with others to collaborate. We’d recommend using it to keep your travel memories so you can share it with your friends and family.
Another fun activity you can do on Google Earth is to follow the Tokyo 2020 Torch as it traverses Japan from its grand start in Fukushima to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo! The best part is, you’ll be able to learn more about each stop so it’s perfect for the kids as well.
We hope these activities will help keep you and your family happily occupied. Till then, stay safe and enjoy these activities in the comfort of your own home!
